Andy Warhol 365 Takes

Currently reading "Andy Warhol 365 Takes"
One of my goals this year was to view and read more about art. I checked this book out of my local library.

Here is a scan of my favorite piece (so far) in this book. Based on one of my favorite works of art: Sandro Botticelli - The Birth of Venus, 1482

Andy Warhol - Details of Renaissance painting 1984
Acrylic and Silkscreen Ink on Canvas

This book is no longer in print and is quite expensive brand new. My library is closed for over a month (remodeling) so I get to keep this book around until the beginning of September. Fortunately, I have another library that is only a few miles in the opposite direction that I can frequent until then. Did you know that you can log in to your library account on-line and request books, DVD's, and other media from other libraries? I LOVE the library. =0)

Finally posted some of my art at eBay!

I have been meaning to do this for years and I finally worked up the nerve to do it. LOTS of artwork on eBay so I won't feel too rejected if it doesn't sell. =0)

Will be adding more artwork on a regular basis now. To see all the items I currently have on eBay, go to:

Writing Down the Bones

I seem to like reading about writing much more than I like writing! I have been writing quite a bit the last few months. For awhile I was writing every day, which I am working on doing again. This is a great book. Lots of ideas to come up with things to write about. I requested this book on-line from The Library Network and they sent it to my local library. This is a book I would like to have in my collection so I can refer to it when I am out of ideas.

Interesting that I do not feel any where near as self conscious posting my artwork as I do posting my writing! Probably why I have not posted any of it.

Still uninspired...

The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider's web.

-Pablo Picasso

Finally finished a piece I started in 2007!

Artist's Block & Facebook

An artist is somebody who produces things that people don't need to have. -Andy Warhol

I came across this quote when I was searching on-line to read about Artist's Block. I think about creating several times a day...every single day! But have spent very few hours during the last two years actually creating. Maybe deep down I feel like it is a waste of time and that is what is getting in my way. I am still encouraged by the fact that I have actually done ANY creating in the last few months. Here is another Betty Boop drawing I was working on back in May. My how time flies when you are blocked. =0)

Millefiori Skull by Frescura

Millefiori Skull by Frescura 3-28-2008
Colored pencils and marker on card stock

I used to think that you had to have a vision of a finished product before you started a piece. This is not the case for my art. It comes to me, bit by bit, as I work on it.

Not sure exactly when I started this. I drew this skull and filled it with circles and then set it aside. When I pulled it back out, I started filling it in with lines and color and this is what I ended up with. It wasn't until many months later that I realized how much I was influenced by the books I was currently reading about polymer clay. That is how this piece eventually got it's name over a year later. Millefiori means "a thousand flowers" in Italian and is traditionally created using glass. The books I had checked out of the library had instructions on how to make intricate canes out of polymer clay to slice into beads or disks.

I never did make anything out of polymer clay, but it had obviously influenced me. If you have never seen Millefiori, here is a picture I just found on Google.

On Writing...

Another fantastic book that has me very excited about getting past my creative blocks. I checked this book out of my local library because funds are low but will add this book to my collection as soon as I can. Like the "War of Art", this is definitely a book I will read again and again.

I had a dream...

I had a dream about seeing someone again and it reminded me...

"Where you used to be,
there is a hole in the world,
which I find myself constantly walking around in the daytime,
and falling in at night.
I miss you like hell."

~Edna St Vincent Millay

Not sure if the person I miss was REALLY who I thought they were...
or who or what they claimed to be...
In the end, it doesn't really matter. The void is still there.

At Last...

FINALLY put the colored pencils to paper and "doodled" something. I see some things I like and will use another time...and many things I won't!

The War of Art!

The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles by Steven Pressfield.

I just got this book out of the library a few days ago and I love it! I am about 2/3rds through it and already looking forward to reading it again. I have been much more productive tackling those everyday things you put off. I should be back to creating very soon...

SO tired of being blocked...

Every day I am hopeful that I will create something...maybe tomorrow will FINALLY be the day...
